Fuwei Intelligent Case | Dual 3D Camera Guided Gripper for Aluminum Profile

With the rapid development of manufacturing and the continuous improvement of automation level, the automation of aluminum profile grabbing and processing has become a major technical challenge in the industry.  Aluminum profiles are widely used in fields such as construction, automotive, electronics, etc. due to their lightweight, corrosion resistance, and ease of processing.  However, the diverse shapes and sizes of aluminum profiles, as well as the high efficiency requirements on the production line, make traditional manual grasping methods unable to meet production needs.  Therefore, developing an efficient and accurate aluminum profile grabbing technology is of great significance for improving production efficiency and reducing costs.

In response to this challenge, Fuwei Intelligent has successfully launched a solution for dual 3D camera guided grasping of aluminum profiles with its deep accumulation in the field of 3D vision guidance technology.  This solution achieves precise identification and grasping of workpieces through the precise positioning and real-time data feedback of dual 3D cameras, providing strong technical support for the automated processing of aluminum profiles.

Project difficulty:

There are multiple types of products that require a visual system to accurately identify and locate the target aluminum profile, with high precision requirements.


Project requirements:

Take photos with a camera, locate and provide coordinate information of the aluminum profile, and guide the gripper to grasp the aluminum profile.  Each time the visual camera takes a photo, 6 aluminum profiles are taken at once. If the number of aluminum profiles in the field of view does not meet the requirement of 6, the existing aluminum profiles (1-5) in the field of view are captured.


Overall action process:

1 Move the bracket position, with two 3D cameras located at each end of the product, triggering the 3D cameras to take photos;

2 Take photos with a 3D camera to obtain coordinate information at both ends of the product;

3 The controller performs calculation processing to obtain the information of the product center grasping position point;

4 The controller sends the position information of the bracket to the PLC;

5 PLC control bracket captures workpieces based on position information;

6 Flow to the next process and repeat the action.

Adopting 1 set of Fuwei ICD6064-V integrated controller and 2 sets of Fuwei FUWEI-I2370 3D industrial cameras

It can automatically perform hand eye calibration by running the robot program to automatically calculate the hand eye calibration results.  3. Collision planning is simple, just import the robot model and material frame model to complete the configuration, automatically generate path points, and achieve automatic grasping.
