What is a Safety Light Curtain?

Safety light curtains, also known as safety gratings, are a critical photoelectric safety device.

Safety light curtains build a protective layer for mechanical equipment that may create risks by applying infrared scanning technology. It consists of two parts: transmitting and receiving, and is usually configured on both sides of the device. A safety light curtain uses a microcontroller and a microprocessor internally for digital program management to ensure that infrared rays can form a protective "wall" during high-speed scanning. Once someone or an object touches this "wall", the control system will immediately change the output level signal and trigger the corresponding mechanism to stop the operation of the machine. Once the obstacle leaves this protective area, the system will automatically recover and the machine can resume normal operation.

In the field of industrial automation, such as stamping, shearing, metal cutting and other equipment, as well as automated assembly, welding and material handling lines, safety light curtains have been widely used. In these working scenarios, it effectively protects operators from exposure to hazardous areas that may be toxic, high pressure or high temperature. In order to meet various safety requirements, safety light curtains also provide different safety levels for users to choose from.
